Symptoms

A quick guide to some of the symptoms we assess and then treat

  • Ingrown Toenail

An ingrown toenail develops when the sides of the toenail grow into the surrounding skin. The big toe is more often affected, and this can be either on one side of the toe or both sides. The nail curls and pierces the skin, which becomes red, swollen and tender and causes distress when putting pressure on it. Can be very painful if not treated.

  • Corns & Calluses

Corns and calluses are areas of hard, thickened skin that develop when the skin is exposed to excessive pressure or friction. Corns themselves, are small circles of thick skin that usually develop on the tops and sides of toes or on the sole of the foot and cause pain and discomfort when you walk.

  • Verrucas

Verrucas (plantar warts), usually develop on the soles of the feet. The affected area of skin will be white, often with a black dot (blood vessel) in the centre and are flat rather than raised. They can at times be painful if they are on a weight-bearing part of the foot. Some public areas wont let you use their facilities until treated.

  • Bunion

A bunion is a bony deformity of the joint at the base of the big toe. The medical name for this is hallux valgus and the main sign of a bunion is the big toe pointing towards the other toes on the same foot. This may force the foot bone attached to it (This being the first metatarsal) to stick outwards. Not very nice and should be treated as a matter of course.

I had a troublesome corn that had been bugging me for sometime. I eventually found the time to do something about it, and I'm so glad I went to see Louise. Cleaned, removed and I now feel like I'm floating along the road! Thank you so much!

Anthony
